Special exhibition to commemorate the completion of the first ukiyo-e of modern ukiyo-e bijin-ga artist, Yasunari Ikenaga “UKIYO-E BEAUTY -From Utamaro Kitagawa to Yasunari Ikegana-”

Yasunari Ikenaga is an artist known for his portraits of enchanting modern beauties captured through delicate lines and a unique use of color. Now, Mr. Ikenaga has taken on the role of the modern ukiyo-e artist to create his first bijin-ga, picture of a beautiful woman “Chirigiku -Falling Chrysanthemum -” in collaboration with carvers and printers at the Adachi Institute of Woodcut Prints, who have kept ukiyo-e production techniques alive in the present day.

Commemorating the completion of his first bijin-ga, “Chirigiku“, we exhibit it with other bijin-ga prints by different artists at our showroom at Mejiro in Tokyo. The change of a description of a beautiful woman from time to time would be seen in this exhibition. Pictures of production background and the woodblocks used for this work are also displayed.
